Exploring Hong Kong as a Strategic Gateway for Chinese SMEs’ Global Expansion in 2026

On January 8, a themed seminar on Chinese SMEs’ global expansion in 2026 was successfully held at the Shenzhen branch of the Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation (HKSTP), attracting around 70 participants from growth-stage and internationally minded enterprises. The event was jointly organized by InCorp International, Dezan Shira & Associates, and HKSTP, with support from Standard Chartered Bank (China) Limited, Shenzhen Branch.

Against the backdrop of accelerating overseas expansion and ongoing global supply chain restructuring, the seminar focused on how Chinese SMEs can adopt a cost-efficient, risk-controlled, and sustainable approach to internationalization. Led by Shanshan Liu, Regional Marketing Manager at Dezan Shira & Associates and Moderator of the event, speakers highlighted Hong Kong’s role as a strategic and practical starting point for managing cross-border compliance, financial structuring, and regional expansion.

Michael Gong, Executive Director of InCorp International, shared insights on emerging outbound trends and common risk areas in overseas expansion, emphasizing the importance of using Hong Kong as a compliance and coordination hub.

Ethan Hu, Business Development Manager at HKSTP, introduced how the Hong Kong–Shenzhen innovation ecosystem supports enterprises in connecting Greater Bay Area R&D resources with global opportunities. He also highlighted HKSTP’s comprehensive facilities and support infrastructure designed to help technology companies scale from the Greater Bay Area to global markets.

From a banking perspective, Ms. Yanmin Li, Team leader of the SME Banking Department at Standard Chartered Bank (China) Limited, Shenzhen Branch, outlined how global banking networks can support cross-border operations and capital management.

Following the presentations, participants engaged in lively discussions and exchanges with the speakers, sharing practical questions and perspectives on overseas structuring, compliance, and risk management.

渣打银行(中国)有限公司深圳分行中小企业部团队主管李艳敏女士则从银行视角出发,解析全球银行业务网络如何为跨境运营与资金管理提供支持。

主题演讲结束后,与会嘉宾与讲者展开热烈讨论,围绕海外架构搭建、合规管理及风险控制等实操问题进行了深度交流。
