On Monday, September 15, 2025, Dezan Shira & Associates joined a dialogue hosted by the Embassy of Sweden in Hanoi, focusing on advancing the Sweden–Vietnam strategic partnership in science, technology, innovation, and digital transformation, with International Business Advisor Aelita Li and Business Intelligence expert Tien Nguyen contributing expertise to the briefing.
The event opened with an update from H.E. Johan Ndisi, Ambassador of Sweden to Vietnam, who underscored the strong and growing cooperation between Sweden and Vietnam across multiple fields, including innovation, high technology, nuclear energy, semiconductors, green transformation, and digital transformation.
The Ambassador reflected on Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh’s visit to Sweden in June 2025, noting both the high-level government engagements and his own visits to several of Sweden’s leading universities. He highlighted the increasing number of Vietnamese students pursuing master’s degrees in Sweden and emphasized how this group represents a valuable talent pipeline for Swedish companies in Vietnam, equipped with world-class skills and training.
Other initiatives introduced at the dialogue included new labor programs and schemes encouraging Swedish businesses to bring advanced technologies to Vietnam. Among the key opportunities mentioned was potential Swedish participation in major infrastructure projects, such as the North–South railway, planned to begin construction in 2026.
The event also featured remarks from Marcus Persson, Country Manager of Business Sweden Vietnam, who highlighted Sweden’s ongoing commitment to building sustainable partnerships with Vietnam’s business community.
Tien Nguyen, Expert of Dezan Shira & Associates’ Business Intelligence unit, supporting especially FDI from Manufacturing with their business expansion to Vietnam, commented: “The U.S. tariff situation remains uncertain, despite the global announcement of reciprocal tariffs against several countries. Companies should stay cautious, monitor developments closely, and adapt their strategies to remain resilient in the face of this uncertainty.”
International Business Advisor Aelita Li, Dezan Shira & Associates, though adds that amid caution, Vietnam’s appeal remains clear: “The U.S. tariffs are a clear challenge, but Vietnam has shown real resilience — leveraging negotiations and its strong trade agreements to stay competitive. At the same time, growing partnerships with countries like Sweden highlight opportunities in innovation, high-tech, and green transformation. Vietnam isn’t just managing global shifts — it’s turning them into opportunities to strengthen its place in global trade.”
The dialogue reaffirmed the importance of Sweden–Vietnam collaboration, particularly in driving forward shared goals in innovation, technology, and sustainable development. It also highlighted Vietnam’s role as a resilient and attractive destination for international businesses amid global trade shifts.
