What are HR challenges for the entertainment industry in China?

Posted On February 2015

There are numerous HR challenges for entertainment companies depending on the length of employment, the nationality of employees, the risk of occupational injury and so forth. Obtaining visas for short-term performers can be similar to obtaining a work visa (Z-visa) for most other types of foreign workers. The variation is dependent on the term of stay. Furthermore, the nationality of employees is important in considering how many foreign employees an entertainment company can hire. There is no official quota for hiring expats; however, municipal Human Resources and Social Security Bureaus have established a precedent for refusing visa applications over a certain limit. Workplace injury liability is also extremely important when establishing a legal relationship between the performer and the company. It is important to have insurance coverage as Chinese law stipulates that the employer is liable for any personal injuries an employee suffers during his or her time of employment.
