Australia-China Business Week: Nine Nations of China – A Unique Set of Challenges & Opportunities

Melbourne, Australia | August 02-04, 2011

Richard Cant, Director at Dezan Shira& Associates will give a keynote presentation on August 3rd, at the Australian Business Forum’s “Australia-China Business Week.” Richard’s presentation will address the key opportunities and challenges in the “Nine Nations of China.” Anyone who wants to do invest in China, effect policies towards China, or simply understand the incredible changes happening in the region, needs to understand the Nine Nations and the role each of them will play in China’s future.  Richard will present a framework for how to think about those regions, what they are like, and why they matter.

If these “nations” were taken individually, they would account for eight of the 20 most populous countries in the world. The smallest region would rank between Britain and Italy. As the integration of China’s economy gathers pace, these regional differences take on more importance than ever before. China often seems like a monolith of 1.3 billion people, but it’s not. It’s a mosaic of distinct regions, and understanding those regions is crucial to understanding China.
