China Regulatory Watch - IP Protection

Multimedia

Presenter(s):

Intellectual Property (IP) protection is something every company must look at when entering and operating in China, no matter which stage of investment it is in.

At the request of both international and domestic players, China has been strengthening IP protection within its borders in recent years. In 2019, China further bolstered its Trademark Law with an amendment which promises to increase penalties on infringement and aggressively target bad faith applications. Meanwhile, China opened 2020 with the Phase One trade deal agreement with the US, adding yet more commitments to IP protection.

In this 4th episode on Market Entry, we sat down with Deputy Regional Manager in Shanghai, Riccardo Benussi, to discuss IP protection in China. We discuss how IP is protected under law, how to protect your IP here, as well as some cautionary tales businesses can learn from.
