BNP Paribas’ Italian Delegation Visits India

India and Italy have built a strong bilateral relationship owing to political, economic and cultural ties. Italy is India’s fifth largest trading partner in the EU. It is also the 13th largest foreign investor in India.

Our Milan and Delhi offices supported BNP Paribas with an informative from 18 – 27 October 2019, to introduce a delegation of 45 bankers and representatives to the Indian market, through direct experience and networking engagements.

Doing Business in India

India has continued its upward march in the World Bank’s Ease of Doing Business rankings – jumping to 63rd position in the Doing Business 2020 report. India was ranked at 142nd place among 190 countries back in 2014. World Bank has commended the significant reforms undertaken by the government given the size of India’s economy.

On October 20 2019, India Managing Director, Rohit Kapur made a presentation introducing doing business in India to the Italian delegates, drawing on nearly 30 years of experience.

Rohit’s presentation included sections on:

  • Doing business with Indians,
  • FDI in India,
  • The governments’ policy initiatives; and,
  • Key regulatory reforms.

Indo-Italian Business Scenario

On October 21 2019, the Italian Embassy in Delhi hosted the delegation for a business and networking dinner.

The event was moderated by International Business Advisory Senior Associate, Giovanni Lovisetti. The evening was graced by the Ambassador of Italy in India, Mr. Lorenzo Angeloni, along with representatives from Bank of Italy in Delhi, Indo-Italian Chamber of Commerce, Italian Trade Agency, among others.

“There is a growing interest of Italian companies in doing business in India. This is evident from the fact that nearly 600 Italian companies are operating in India within the industrial machinery, automotive, infrastructure sectors to services, fashion and textile sectors”, said Giovanni Lovisetti.

Building World Class Infrastructure

During this 10-day trip, the delegation also made industrial park and company visits to understand the practicalities of doing business in India.

On October 23 2019, the delegation was welcomed by Mahindra World City (MWC), Jaipur – a multi-product Special Economic Zone based on the concept of an “Integrated Business City”.

The purpose of the visit was to introduce delegates to the world class Industrial Infrastructure at MWC Jaipur. The delegates were impressed to see the model industrial development and how companies from different countries are doing business in India.

“It was our pleasure and an honor, we made a journey to the future of India” said Ferdinando Rebecchi, Head of Life Banker BNL Group BNP Paribas Development and Financial Advisory after the visit to MWC Jaipur.

The delegation’s last stop in India was Bengaluru – the Silicon Valley of India. Here, the delegation got an opportunity to visit Infosys and Wipro – two of the top IT companies in India and in the world. The delegation interacted with the top brass of these companies and learnt more about their history and rise in India.
