On 21st August 2019, our HR experts delivered a speech on HR audit and potential risks during hiring to members of the British Chamber of Commerce Shanghai‘s HR focus group.

Our Human Resources Assistant Manager, Ellen Yin and our Business Advisory Services Manager, Allan Xu, shared in-depth knowledge and real experiences during the presentation.

Ellen recapped the significance of a HR audit, before going on to outline a five phase audit process.

Recruitment is not simply a ‘matching game’ to choose the right candidates. If recruitment practices are not appropriate or compliant with local labor laws, HR-related problems will emerge and thus undermine the prosperity of the businesses.

Risk Avoidance During Hiring

As we moved on to “risk avoidance in the hiring process”, Allan introduced ten modules requiring review during a HR audit. She also analyzed potential risks in six recruitment areas including employment criteria, offer letter, right-to-know and contract signing.

Allan proceeded to list several typical issues related to labor contract review and management, employment contract management, staff handbooks and more.

Based on the detailed instructions of what should be re-evaluated, HR managers can conduct audits and therefore detect hidden risks in their companies’ employment systems. The presentation ended with two case studies to showcase the HR audit principles.
